A.4.1 - Collaborative Lesson Plan: Partner Project

Spring Scores - Section 4

Spring Scores - Section 2

Lesson Planning Steps - This  is a step-by-step procedure for writing your collaborative lesson plan.

The purpose of this assignment is to practice lesson planning with a partner. You and your partner will identify several learning objectives from the TEKS, determine how you will assess student learning, identify a text set of resources, and create a plan to coteach the lesson using the Essential Elements of Instruction lesson format.

This lesson planning format is also found in the TWU Student Teacher Handbook on page 24.

From the syllabus:

Collaborative Lesson Plan: Partner Project

Using state curriculum standards, you and your partner identify learning objectives and design a 40-50 minute lesson plan to meet that need. Your plan must include opportunities for co-teaching as well as list the standards, goals, objectives, learning tasks, assessment, and resources to be used. A collaborative planning form and a lesson plan template are provided for this project. These follow the same format as the twenty-one sample lesson plans in Collaborative Strategies for Teaching Reading Comprehension: Maximizing Your Impact.

In Module:

3.1: Identify a partner who will collaborate with you to develop a lesson plan at your preferred instructional level.

3.2: Determine learning objectives based on the TEKS. (Note: Objectives must be interdisciplinary. They must include one or more language arts TEKS related to reading comprehension plus other ELA-R or TEKS from another content area such as math, science, or social studies). Use Bloom's Taxonomy to identify verbs for your objectives that provide measurable student outcomes. Spring 2011: These are provided for you selection: TEKS ELA-R - Science (.doc)

3.3: NO Class. The wise teams meet. Determine an assessment tool or strategy, research-based instructional strategies, and gather resources.

3.4: Bring your lesson plan to class. You will EACH share your lesson plan, graphic organizers, and assessment tool with another student in our class.

4.1: Lesson Plan is due. Use the A.4.1 Rubric to self-assess your work and highlight your achievement on the form. Submit your work in Blackboard as specified below.

4.2: Bring your FINAL lesson plan, graphic organizers, and assessment tool(s) to class for lesson plan speed dating!

Use the A.4.1 Collaborative Lesson Plan Rubric to guide your work.

You and your partner must turn in:

  1. a completed Collaborative Planning Form;
  2. an assessment tool, such as a rubric or checklist;
  3. and a Final Collaborative Lesson Plan that follows the template and includes all of the template components.

 IMPORTANT: Keep the template text in bold black font. Add your information in regular black font.

Assessing and Turning in Your Work:

  1.  Use the A.4.1 Rubric to self-assess your work before you submit it.
  2. Submit your work in Module 4, A.4.1 Collaborative Lesson Plan.
  3. One partner will submit the rubric with the top portion completed, the team’s self-assessment, and the collaborative planning form.
  4. The other partner will submit at least one graphic organizer, a rubric for assessing K-12 students’ work, and a completed lesson plan. It must follow the template.
