Assignment Sheet – Public Library Fieldtrip
Public Library Fieldtrip – A.1.3
Fall 2010 G.A. Rachel's Prezi: "Public Library as Educational Partner"
Sample Map
From the syllabus:
“Students will visit the public library to learn about the resources available to support their LS3013 course assignments. They will begin to learn the Dewey classification system and procure a library card so they can check out books and other resources for use in this course.”
The goal of this project is to increase your familiarity with the books and media resources available at the public library. You will need access to books and resources for class projects throughout the semester. While a school library may be your first choice for resources when you become a classroom teacher, the public library will also serve your needs. With evening and weekend hours and public librarians to serve you, the public library can be your community partner in teaching and in working with children and families.
You will complete this project any time before the due date and will receive 1.5 hours class time release in order to accomplish this project.
Map:
You will draw and label a map that shows all ten areas listed on the checklist on the rubric. Please notice that you should specifically mark the location of biographies, folklore, and poetry. You will submit your map in class on the due date.
Titles:
You will complete the table on the rubric for both the children’s and the teen area of the library.
Brochure:
You will pick up, read, and bring a brochure/flyer/leaflet from the library to class and turn it in with your map.
Library Card:
You will bring your library card to class on the due date and show it to the graduate assistant.
Bring your library card, map, brochure, and books or resources you checked out (that are related to A.1.4) to share in small groups on the due date.
